In our news-in-brief section this time, learn about our super new aviary, a wonderful gesture from Austwick Open Gradens and cheese, cheese and more cheese.
We are thrilled to have recently opened 'Arthurs Seat', the most fabulous owl soft release enclosure, temporarily built in our current home. Constructed by the wonderful Bob Nash, with the materials paid for by the proceeds of The Cake 'Ole, the delicious bakes in the honesty box at Horton and brainchild of baker Erica Nash. After Bob had finished, Erica painted the enclosure and then we filled it with owls ready for their release into the night skies. Many of the owls have been with us since they were very small, waiting for release when they were ready and it was safe to do so.
The enclosure allows us to offer a soft release, so that these wonderful birds are supported until they learn how to be wild. The enclosure has been named after our previous neighbour Arthur Whitehead, who used to visit us whilst walking his dog. Arthur and his wife Pam have been huge supporters and helpers of the Rescue for a long time. This is such an amazing enclosure, which we can use for lots of wildlife, and that we can dismantle if we ever find out forever home. Thanks to everyone who was involved in making it a reality!

Last month, Austwick gardeners welcomed the public in for their annual Open Gardens event. Everyone rose to the challenge and the gardens looked wonderful. Austwickians supported the day, the visitors came and all was well. Despite the rain, a huge amount was raised for charity, including an amazing £760 for Craven Wildlife Rescue. We want to say a very big 'thank you' to the Austwick Open Gardens team for nominating us as one of the benefitting charities this year. Their donation will make a real difference - a brilliant contribution towards helping to keep our patients healthy, warm and well fed.
Every October, the Yorkshire Dales comes alive with the flavours of the Dales' finest cheeses in the Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival. From Friday 10 to Sunday 19 October, the event is more than just cheese, it's about food, creativity and community. Ashes Farm in Selside is taking part in this fantastic celebration, opening its Pop-up Cafe and serving delicious food and drink. We are absolutely delighted that every penny they raise will be donated to the Rescue, so please do pop along and enjoy great food with them, while supporting us at the same time. For more information, please click here. Many thanks to all their brilliant team.
